I have a mailbox separate from my home address now. They accept deliveries for me from all of the different carriers. Three days in a row now, I've had a slip of paper in my mailbox that says "Please see us. We have a package that is too large for your box."
Heh. Oh, I'll come see you, alright.

So in a conversation about political status updates on Facebook yesterday, I told some of my friends that I couldn't participate in the conversation anymore, because it was starting to remind me of cilantro conversations, where I always end up learning that somebody I know and love and respect does not like cilantro. I am very, very pro-cilantro. And yes, I know it's a genetic thing, and people who don't like cilantro say it tastes like soap. But like I told my friends yesterday, well, guess what? If I had soap that tasted like cilantro, I WOULD EAT THE SOAP.
That's when I got tagged and asked to start a group.
And never one to let a joke die without eeking out every last remaining ounce of funny, this morning, I actually tried to create that page. Until I got the worst news of all:
Our automated system will not approve the name "Well guess what? If I had soap that tasted like cilantro, I WOULD EAT THE SOAP." because it contains a word or phrase that is blocked to prevent the creation of unofficial or otherwise prohibited Pages. If you believe this is an error, please contact our Customer Support team.
FACEBOOK IS ANTI-CILANTRO.

When I was in Europe in the summer of 1998, I took a lot of photos, but there was one shot that I never got that always bugged me. In Ireland, on the country roads, there were a lot of signs that said "Heavy Plant Crossing" in areas where heavy equipment and trucks would enter and leave the road. I spent hundreds of miles trying to catch one of these signs, and a truck would always pass in front of it, or I'd see it when it was too late to get my camera ready. I thought it was hilarious. Images of giant plants crossing the road. I giggled a LOT. And this was before I even made it to Amsterdam!
Earlier this week, headed north on Alpine Road, I passed the Lowes at 173. It was very windy. Dozens of small shrubs and trees and plants had blown from the Lowes garden center onto Alpine and cars were dodging them as they rolled around in the wind.
I always suspected that picture would come in handy. Heavy plant crossing, indeed.

My plans for this weekend are completely up in the air. There might be a midget race in Macon, IL. There might be a sprint car race in Haubstadt, IN. There might be a Neofuturists show in Chicago. I might sleep for three days straight.

This week, years past:
2009: I took some of my very favorite photos ever, in the race shop.
2007: We all make fun of a city boy who is scared of cows.
2006: Wags announced he was going to be an English major (this is one of my top 5 favorite convos in the archives)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Facebook group names are the new Tea Party signs.

I'm going to OD on cilantro thanks to this ongoing conversation. I went out for Mexican last night, and I have a date for Mexican food again tonight. I leave for lunch in a couple of minutes and I'm thinking about going to the garden center and picking up some cilantro to plant in the backyard so I can just roll around in it once in awhile.

Also, the Neofuturists are amazingly excellent. They did a special Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind for a convention I staff last year, and that was the first time I had seen the troupe in five years. They were just as good as I remember, and maybe even a bit better. I need to get into town again sometime this summer to see 'em in their native element.

Or do not and I'll make it an assignment in research methods in the fall about how it is important to only change one thing at a time.

And you know I love the Neo-Futurists something fierce. And that's not because I'm biased. But if you go, I hope you have a great time!
