Cheer Me Up

I briefly considered turning my Yahoo Personals profile back on today. Not because I am man-shopping, but just because of the ego boost that it always gives me. I don't know if there's something special about Yahoo Personals in my part of the country, but there are innumerable cute guys registered, and they change constantly, and they are chatty and flirty and more than willing to initiate contact. I always hear other peoples' online dating nightmare stories and while I do have a few of my own, for the most part the experience gave me a pretty big boost. So at times like this, when I'm feeling moody and exhausted and just generally down on myself, the immediate power of Yahoo's ego boost seems really attractive.

A friend discouraged me today, however, because of how bad it would appear if anybody I know saw my profile as active, and she suggested this alternative, the mother of all attention-whoring requests: Ask the internet to tell me how wonderful I am instead. So there you go, the challenge has been issued. I'm down right now and I need to know why you guys stop here every day and read me.

Why do you like me?

Mostly I love you because you took my advice about the Yahoo personals thing. I'm going to use this as an example in a few years when my 101 kids start their eye-rolling. "See! Listen to your mother!
